Monumental Writing Project
There is a limitless amount of inspiration surrounding the monuments in our nations capital. Those that honor our presidents, wars, veterans and civil rights leaders offer moments to reflect on the past and consider the future. This project exists to take that inspiration and reflection to a personal level for scholars. This is not an optional assignment, however there are several ways for scholars to express themselves within the parameters of the writing project. Directions are found on the links below. It all starts by visiting the monuments... personally or virtually.
For Scholars Traveling to Washington DC 2018
Use your phone to capture at least two meaningful quotes from the surface of at least two of the monuments you tour. Follow these directions when you return to complete the reflective and persuasive writing prompts.
For Scholars remaining in Charlotte

Monumental Writing part 1:
- You must upload your two quote photos into your Microsoft account in order to participate. (Save Lastname quote 1)
- Choose one quote and write a 200 word reflection. This should be a free write with stream of consciousness type writing: no format, no conventions, no rules. (Save Lastname quote free write)
- Create a Socratic question that would guide a discussion group of your peers based on ONE quote. (Save Lastname quote question)

- Create a brief speech, poem, blog-post or meme that incorporates your quote of choice. . (Save Lastname quote presentation)
- Present your speech, poem, blog-post or meme to your classmates.
- Upload your project (presentation only) to the Google site for “The Monumental Writing Project 2018”.
