First Quarter Personal Reading Assignment
Still there are far too many students trying to log in on personal accounts and unfamiliar with how to use Google Classroom. So here are the directions for reference.
DO NOT PRINT FROM HERE! I will NOT accept printed copies. There will be two tech tutoring session to help you use Classroom from home between now and October 30. If for some reason you cannot use the link below to access the book list, please view it from here OR go to ala.org and choose a Newberry Award or Newberry Honor Book from 2011 - 2018. Choose ONLY fiction books.
First Quarter Personal Reading Assignment
1.Choose your book. This page with the following information must be shown to me by September 22th, 2018. This quarter you will choose a novel from the John Newberry Award and Honor Book list 2010- 2018. Click here.

3.Read your book & complete the packet. While you read, complete each of the pages in the packet that follows. It contains five pages: Plot, Character, Conflict, Theme and Analysis. We will complete the same pages for “Flowers for Algernon” in class that you do concurrently for your PRA book at home! If you work too far ahead, you may or may not know what you should be learning and the assignment becomes “stuff for points” instead of a literature learning experience.
The 4 page packet is due on October 30. It is worth 20 points.
· Each page must show 5 points worth of LEARNING
o 5= shows a complete understanding of the literary element and gives a thoughtful analysis of the element
4= meets goal, thoughtful, clear and accurate
o 3= needs improvement to make responses thoughtful and clear
o 2= incomplete
o 1= unacceptable
· Each page will reflect what you learned first quarter about Plot, Character, Conflict, and Theme.
· You will be using all of the packet information to write a paper. The due date for the paper will not be given until the writing co-ops are created. The score of the paper is not connected to the packet.
